Principal Curator at CMTV SunDeep Bhardwaj’s INTERVIEW Serial No. 2 for MEDIA

Q 1: What encouraged you to travel the world with a camera?

World is just awsome every face and place have a unique story tell. It was a childhood dream to travel across all inhabited continents and all major countries of the World including many exotic and unexplored places on this Planet Earth. When I realised this dream and made efforts to make this dream a reality and got the opportunity to travel the globe , I needed a medium to record my journey. Media Arts of Still and Film seemed perfect to serve the desire I had to record special moments during this journey of decades . Film Choreography & Still Photography as a Fine Art was a medium I was passionate about and got good in with time and experience. Documentaries of hundreds of places I have visited in last 15 years are also under production and will be available for licensing on my travel stock and archives website in future SunDeepKullu.Com SDBWP™ &  another one planned named CuratedMedia.TV ™ A web Broadcasting of carefully selected, sorted and Showcased media be it film, photos, text, Quotes, shayari or Graphic Digital Arts.  I was a painter in my school days and allways took first prize in my school days right from nursery till 10 th standard when I was studing in St. Mary’s School Sundernagar.

Also I took many firsts in Art and Craft and Painting competitions. Even now I would love to continue painting if I can find time inbetween these travels around the World and amidst busy assignments I have . May be after i return to India completely I may continue painting and Independent film production. I started my journey in 2007 With the vision and mission of enhancing my skills of Photography and shooting all exotic places I encounter in my World tour and allways targeted to capture the most unique  Landscapes, People Portraits and Wonderous Places  and New 7 Wonders of World / Nature on my mind I wanted to write this tagline on my website and add it to my portfolio ” The World is my Studio ” . I am of viewpoint that every place and face have a story to tell I decided to record my Photostories around the World.

What actually helped me travel around World as a Photographer and become a World Traveller was encouragement, support and recognition I got from these people

-My father ( Dr.N.L.Bhardwaj ) a Retired Principal,  a National awardee in the field of education with 13 National and International awards and also a social worker.  He is a eminent writer with 14 books published and more in making.  He has always encouraged me to develop my artistic skills.

-The artistic genes I inherited from my mother ( Smt. Shakuntla Bhardwaj a retired Hindi Language teacher ) helped me to become a distinguished lens man I am today.

-My elder brother ( Kapil Bhardwaj a Procurement Manager ) and his wife ( Ruma Bhardwaj ) both working with Fortune Global 500 companies as Procurement Managers ) and running own consultancy SS Consultants in Mumbai.

I like to create things that outlast me and with army Fine Art works I feel I leave a legacy behind for World and children and next generation close to my heart Nayeli Aakrita, Srijita &  Samit.

I couldn’t have set out for this World tour without support of all my family members. My journey is still on and so far I covered 70+Countries 555+ Destinations nearby 150 + Airports Across All Inhabited 6 Continents . These milestones I achieved, simply because IMPOSSIBLE became ” I-M-POSSIBLE ” with support of my above intimates and my followers around the World who keep admiring my work and keep inspiring me.

Q 2: How did you find the world, other than being beautiful and photogenic?
Well my knowledge and experiences of World at this point after travelling far and wide across the globe from Brazil to Australia, from the UK to South Africa, from Egypt to Malaysia, from Morocco to Thailand, from Switzerland to Vietnam across all inhabited continents is quite wide and I can’t comment on World As a Whole but yes if you ask me country specific or continent specific experience and perception then I would say:

African people are cheerful with a bright smile and full of joy. The dancing is a important form of expression and celebration. Though governments there have lot to do with Human Development Index and safety of tourists in places like Johannesburg . South Africa is amazing country and have lots of tourist attractions. Tunisian people are very warm and it’s a distinct African Arabic mixed culture with French touch.

Asia is simply incredible full of culture and variety and I guess no World travellers journey is over till they see Asia and till they trek the Himalayas of India & Nepal

South America is another continent with fun capital of World Rio and many amazing cities and wonders of World. The cost of living there is increasing exponentially. People just want to have fun and the countries there like Brazil are really going to develop very fast in par with greatest nations of World in near future.

North America with all the prosperity and biggest billionaires has very high human development index and they run businesses which  are qualitative branded and expensive . They have amazing metropolitan cities like Montreal New York Los Angles and beautiful national parks in USA but wealth is too unevenly divided with major wealth of nation with just top 2 percent of businessmen who are billionaires and rest of people have to really work hard to get great living in expensive cities like New York which boasts to have the best talent in the World.

Australia is just another country with very high HDI and Kangaroos seem be carefree by nature and very polite in conversations .

Europe is quite interesting for first few trips and after travelling to Zurich Munich Genieva Frankfurt Rome it’s all the same and gets bit boring to me as i have been to all the countries in Europe multiple times. For people from continents other than Europe who do not travel much there it may be interesting initially but I find Asia more exotic and interesting than Europe and any other continents.

Q 3: What kind of people have you met across?
I have met people from all walks of life. One’s who are travellers , photographers , artists , musicians , businessman, executives, villagers, city dwellers, and it’s wonderfull to meet people of so many races cultures ethnicity and location. But it feels great to meet people who are warm humane and fun loving and respectful and mindful about cultural differences.

Q 4: How do you think photography contributes to social goodness?
Photography is one medium which can record a moment and show without limitation of time  the moment in best possible form anytime . It’s easy to explain a situation or moment to a person you wanna share with a photograph . It’s like recording a moment and making it live forever . With digital photography it’s like you can record it and with Internet it will travel anywhere in instants and live forever. Whenever photography is done with a cause it’s simply the best of all as it awares society about the flaws and weaknesses of society and ways people can help the society. Rich know about poor and vice versa with the information photography passes without direct interaction BT via medium like news websites etc.  This creates and social awareness in shortcut. Whenever a photograph of natural disaster is shown on Internet or magazine it makes people understand the situation and encourages social welfare. So this adds to goodness and awareness via photography and helps fight such calamities with ease and to encourage support to each other irrespective of borders between countries . Internet uses photography as medium to communicate situations in one part of world with another that  too in fraction of seconds using social networking websites. Photography is a boon for any social worker to spread the cause and connect the similar communities.

Q 5: What are your views on Eco-tourism… Is it an asset or a liability for the Nature?
Eco Tourism is definately a asset to me and Eco-projects which involve least risk to nature and still profitable should be exactly what we should be doing in today’s world . Ecotourism is a form of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, intended as a low-impact and often small scale alternative to standard commercial (mass) tourism.

If would be great if modern travellers, can be made aware that the money spent is to provide funds for ecological conservation, to directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities, or to foster respect for different cultures and for human rights.

To encourage travellers to experience destinations relatively untouched by human intervention will be asset for the areas as it will generate employment and even empower locals to take better care of the environment and nature. Rather than depending entirely on natural resources and depleting it people will use other means which tax less to nature and they can earn a better living.

When the focuses is on socially responsible travel, personal growth, and environmental sustainability it is asset. Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. Ecotourism is intended to offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.

Responsible ecotourism programs include those that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for local communities. For these reasons, ecotourism often appeals to advocates of environmental and social responsibility.

I founded SDB Fine Art Wonders of World gallery a project under construction with a view that it would give a new attraction to towns of Sundernagar and Manali in Himachal in future.

Q 6: What kind of your photographs have been appreciated by experts?
Being a Getty Images contributer I feel my landscapes, people portraits are more in demand. With lot of licensing requests coming from media houses around the World with many Visual Art and Design companies even interested in Fine Art along with Landscpes. I even feel the Wonders of World pictures with UNESCO World heritage sites and Himalayan landscapes  are particularly famous in my stock. But if I talk of amateurs and semi professionals and even new  learners then major comments feedback and appreciation is for landscape photos and people portraits mostly. I am more interested in Fine Art Photography and Documentaries of Unexplored places around the World.

Q 7: Which has been your favourite spot all over the world?m

Jiuzhaigou-Huanglong Valley in Sichuan, TAR, China, is my favourite spot and I think I have strong ties with Himalayas so my favourite is Safari in India state of Himachal Pradesh from Swarghat-Bilaspur-Sundernagar-Kullu-Aut-Manali-Rohtang-Keylong-Zingzingbar – Baralacha La-Bharatpur-Sarchu-Leh as my favourite travel experiences .

Having travelled to all inhabited continents of Europe (East & West Europe), Africa (Eastern Africa, Middle Africa, Northern Africa, Southern Africa & Western Africa), Asia (Eastern Asia, Northern Asia, Southeastern Asia, Southern Asia, Western Asia, Indian Sub-Continent & The Middle East), North America, South America & Australia I still feel that Jiuzhai Valley in Sichuan China and the beauty of Himachal Pradesh Kashmir and Uttranchal ( the Himalayan North of India ) surpasses that of any other place in the whole wide world!

Q 8: What would be your focus in future?

My focus in future is to cover more of Africa and North America with finally return to India to make my permanent SDB Fine Arts Wonders of World  gallery in Himachal where I will showcase all the 70+ Countries across 6 Continents.
