The Breaking News was Exclusive of Curated Media TV and was published on 19 Dec 2017 evening by Him Reporter while other Media publishers were making speculations on probable next Chief minister of HP with no of other options we were pretty sure than next CM would be from Mandi and most deserving candidate was neither Mr. Nadda nor Mr. Satti or Mr Dhumal or others but only Mr . Jai Ram. Mandi with 9 seats in bag of BJP and one remaining of total.10 had allready cheered BJP with a great lead and after Kangra is most instrumental district in deciding the victory of any party in Himachal and even making decision of CM thought it was quite deprived in this area though being highly influencial district. A new era in develoment of Mandi is on way.

This is the anniversary of a guru’s birth marked by the holding of a festival. A gurpurab in Sikh tradition is a celebration of an anniversary related to the lives of the Sikh gurus. Observance of these anniversaries is an important feature of the Sikh way of life.

There are indications in the old chronicles that the gurus who succeeded Guru Nanak celebrated his birthday. Such importance was attached to the anniversaries that dates of the deaths of the first four gurus were recorded on a leaf in the first recension of the Scripture prepared by the Fifth Guru, Guru Arjan. The term gurpurab first appeared in the time of the gurus. It is a compound of the word purab (or parva in Sanskrit), meaning a festival or celebration, with the word guru. It occurs in at least five places in the writings of Bhai Gurdas (1551–1636), written in the time of Guru Arjan.

Among the more important gurpurbs in the Nanakshahi calendar are the birth anniversaries of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh, the martyrdom days of Guru Arjan and Guru Tegh Bahadur, and of the installation of the Guru Granth Sahib in the Harimandar at Amritsar. Other important gurpurbs include Baisakhi, which commemorates the creation of the Khalsa Panth, and the martyrdom days of the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh.

Gurpurabs are a mixture of the religious and the festive, the devotional and the spectacular, the personal and the communal. Over the years a standardized pattern has evolved, but this pattern has no special sanctity, and local groups may invent their own variations. During these celebrations, the Guru Granth Sahib is read through, in private homes and in the gurdwaras, in a single continuous ceremony lasting 48 hours. This reading, called Akhand Path, must be without interruption; the relay of reciters who take turns at saying the Scripture ensures that no break occurs.

Special assemblies are held in gurdwaras and discourses given on the lives and teachings of the gurus. Sikhs march in processions through towns and cities chanting the holy hymns. Special langars, or community meals, are held for the participants. Partaking of a common meal on these occasions is reckoned an act of merit. Programmes include initiating those not already initiated into the order of the Khalsa in the manner in which Guru Gobind Singhhad done in 1699. Sikh journals and newspapers bring out their special numbers to mark the event.[clarification needed] Public functions are held, besides the more literary and academic ones in schools and colleges. Gurpurbs commemorating birth anniversaries may include illuminations in gurdwaras and in residential houses. Friends and families exchange greetings. Printed cards like those used to commemorate holidays in the West are also coming into vogue.

Sikh fervour for gurpurab celebration reached new heights during the tercentenary of Guru Gobind Singh’s birth in 1967. This event evoked widespread enthusiasm and initiated long-range academic and literary programmes.[clarification needed] It also set a new trend and format. Many subsequent gurpurbs were celebrated with similar fervor, including the fifth centennial of Guru Nanak’s birth in 1969 and the first centenary of the birth of the Singh Sabha in 1973. There is no firm evidence that centennials before the 1967 gurpurb were similarly observed. Max Arthur Macauliffe, a prominent 19th-century Sikh scholar, proposed a special celebration in 1899 for the second centennial of the Khalsa’s creation, but it did not receive much popular support.

Gurpurab of Guru Nanak

Gurpurab of Guru NanakEdit

The birthday of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion, comes in the month of November, but the date varies from year to year according to the lunarIndian calendar. The birthday celebrations last three days. Generally two days before the birthday, Akhand Path is performed in the Gurdwaras. One day before the birthday, a procession is organised which is led by the Panj Piare and the Palki (Palanquin) of Guru Granth Sahib and followed by teams of singers singing hymns, brass bands playing different tunes, ‘Gatka‘ (martial art) teams show their swordsmanship, and processionists singing the chorus. The procession passes through the main roads and streets of the town which are covered with buntings and decorated gates and the leaders inform the people of the message of Guru Nanak. On the anniversary day, the programme begins early in the morning at about 4 or 5 am with the singing of Asa-di-Var (morning hymns) and hymns from the Sikh scriptures followed by Katha (exposition of the scripture) and lectures and recitation of poems in praise of the Guru. The celebrations go on till about 2 pm.

After Ardas and distribution of Karah Parsad, the Langar is served. Some Gurdwaras also hold night prayer sessions. This begins around sunset when Rehras (evening prayer) is recited. This is followed by Kirtan till late in the night. Sometimes a Kavi-darbar(poetic symposium) is also held to enable the poets to pay their tributes to the Guru in their own verses. At about 1:20 am, the actual time of the birth, the congregation starts singing Gurbani. The function ends about 2 am.

The Sikhs who cannot join the celebrations for some reason, or in places where there are no Gurdwaras, hold the ceremony in their own homes by performing Kirtan, Path, Ardas, Karah Parsad and Langar.

Legend of DHANTERAS 1st Day of DIWALI ( Festival of Lights ) DANTERAS TRAYODASHI FESTIVAL

Dhana Trayodashi (or Dhanteras NepaliधनतेरषHindiधनतेरसMarathiधनत्रयोदशी) is the first day of the Indian Diwali and Nepalese Tihar Festival. The festival is known as “Dhanatrayodashi” or “Dhanvantari Trayodashi”. It is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the Vikram Samvat Hindu calendarmonth of Ashwin.

LegendsEdit

An ancient legend ascribes the occasion to an interesting story about the 16-year-old son of King Hima. His horoscope predicted his death by snake-bite on the fourth day of his marriage. On that particular day, his newly-wed wife did not allow him to sleep. She laid out all her ornaments and lots of goldand silver coins in a heap at the entrance of the sleeping chamber and lit lamps all over the place. Then she narrated stories and sang songs to keep her husband from falling asleep. The next day, when Yama, the god of Death arrived at the prince’s doorstep in the guise of a Serpent, his eyes were dazzled and blinded by the brilliance of the lamps and the jewellery. Yama could not enter the Prince’s chamber, so he climbed on top of the heap of gold coins and sat there the entire night listening to the stories and songs. In the morning, he silently went away. Thus, the young prince was saved from the clutches of death by the cleverness of his new bride, and the day came to be celebrated as Dhanteras.[3]The following day came to be called Naraka Chaturdashi (‘Naraka’ means hell and Chaturdashi means 14th). It is also known as ‘Yamadeepdaan’ as the ladies of the house light earthen lamps or ‘deep’ and these are kept burning throughout the night glorifying Yama, the God of Death. Since this is the night before Diwali, it is also called ‘Chhoti Diwali’ or Minor Diwali.[4]

Dhanvantari is worshipped on the occasion of Dhanvantari Trayodashi. Dhanvantari is considered to be the teacher of all physicians and the originator of Ayurveda.

Celebrationrrhh

Dhanvantari is worshipped on the occasion of Dhanvantari Trayodashi. Dhanvantari is considered to be the teacher of all physicians and the originator of Ayurveda.

CelebrationEdit

Although Dhanteras has become associated with wealth and people buy gold or silver jewellery and utensils on this day and they also gift silver or gold coins, there is no association of either wealth or gold with Dhanvantari, who is a provider of good health rather than wealth.

In modern times, Dhanteras has come to be known as the most auspicious occasion for buying gold, silver and other metals especially kitchenware. The day also sees heavy purchases of appliances and automobiles.

Dhanteras also marks the beginning of the five day festivities of Diwali.

SignificanceEdit

On the day of Dhantrayodashi Goddess Lakshmi came out from the ocean of milk during the churning of the Sea. Hence, Goddess Lakshmi, along with Lord Kuber is worshiped on the day of Trayodashi.

LegendsEdit

Since this is the night before Diwali, it is also called ‘Chhoti Diwali’ or Minor Diwali.[4]

According to another popular legend, when the Gods and demons churned the ocean for Amrita or nectar, Dhanvantari (the physician of the Gods and an incarnation of Vishnu) emerged carrying a jar of the elixir on the day of Dhanteras.[4]

PreparationEdit

On the day of Dhanteras, business premises are renovated and decorated. Entrances are made colorful with lanterns and traditional motifs of Rangoli designs to welcome the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. To indicate her long-awaited arrival, small footprints are drawn with rice flour and vermilion powder all over the houses. Lamps are kept burning all through the night.

TraditionsEdit

On Dhanteras Hindus consider it auspicious to purchase gold or silver articles or at least one or two new utensils. It is believed that new “Dhan” or some form of precious metal is a sign of good luck“Lakshmi Puja” is performed in the evenings when tiny Diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadows of evil spirits. “Bhajans”, devotional songs in praise of Goddess Lakshmi, are also sung. In south India, especially Tamil Nadu, the Bhramin community women make ‘Marundhu’ which translates into medicine on the eve of Naraka Chaturdasi that is Dhanvantri Trayodashi. The Marundhu is offered during the prayer and eaten in the early morning on Naraka Chaturdasi before sunrise. Infact, many families handover the recipes of Marundhu to their daughters and daughter in law. The Marundhu which looks like chavanaprash after it is made, is consumed to eliminate the imbalance of tridoshas in the body.

CelebrationsEdit

Dhanteras is celebrated with gusto and enthusiasm. “Lakshmi Puja” is performed in the evenings when tiny diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadows of evil spirits. Bhajans, devotional songs in praise of Goddess Laxmi, are sung and “Naivedya” of traditional sweets is offered to the Goddess. There is a peculiar custom in Maharashtra to lightly pound dry coriander seeds (Dhane in Marathi for Dhanatrayodashi) with jaggery and offer as Naivedya.

In villagescattle are adorned and worshiped by farmers as they form the main source of their income.

Kullu Dussehra is the renowned International Mega Dussehra festival observed in the month of October in Himachal Pradesh state in northern India. Wherein more than 4-5 lac people visits the fair from all across the Globe. It is celebrated in the Dhalpur maidan in the Kullu valley. Dussehra at Kullu commences on the tenth day of the rising moon, i.e. on ‘Vijay Dashmi‘ day itself and continues for seven days. Its history dates back to the 17th century when local King Jagat Singh installed an idol of Raghunath on his throne as a mark of penance. After this, god Raghunath was declared as the ruling deity of the Valley. The State government has accorded the status of International festival to the Kullu Dussehra, which attracts tourists in large numbers

HistoryEdit

According to legend, after his return from a pilgrimage to Maharishi Jamdagni went to his hermitage at Malana. On his head he carried a basket filled with eighteen images of different gods. Crossing through Chanderkhani pass, he came upon a fierce storm. Struggling to stay on his feet, Maharishi Jamdagni’s basket was thrown from his head, scattering the images to many distant places. Hill people, finding these images saw them take shape or form as Gods, and began to worship them. Legend has it that deity worship began in the Kullu Valley.

In the 16th Century, Raja Jagat Singh ruled over the prosperous and beautiful kingdom of Kullu. As the ruler, the Raja came to know of a peasant by the name of Durgadatta who apparently possessed many beautiful pearls. The Raja thought he should have these treasured pearls, even though the only pearls Durgadatta had were pearls of Knowledge. But the Raja in his greed ordered Durgadatta to hand over his pearls or be hanged. Knowing of his inevitable fate at the hands of the king, Durgadatta threw himself on the fire and cursed the king, “Whenever you eat, your rice will appear as worms, and water will appear as blood”. Doomed by his fate, the Raja sought solace and searched out advice from a Brahmin. The Holy man told him that in order to eradicate the curse, he must retrieve the deity of Ragunath from Raam’skingdom. Desperate, the king sent a Brahmin to Ayodya. One fine day the Brahmin stole the deity and set out on his journey back to Kullu. The people of Ayodya, finding their beloved Ragunath missing, set out in search of the Kullu Brahmin. On the banks of the Saryu river, they approached the Brahmin and asked him why he had taken Ragunath ji. The Brahmin recounted the story of the Kullu king. The people of Ayodya attempted to lift Ragunath, but their deity became incredibly heavy when headed back towards Ayodya, and became very light when headed to Kullu. On reaching Kullu Ragunath was installed as the reigning deity of the Kullu kingdom. After installing the deity of Ragunath, Raja Jagat Singh drank the Charan-Amrit of the deity and the curse was lifted. Jagat Singh became Lord Ragunath’s regent. This legend is connected with the Dussehra at Kullu. This deity is taken in a Ratha to the Dussehra.

Dussehra 2017: 5 Places That Celebrate The Victory of Good Over Evil Differently

The legends may vary but the message behind the Vijayadashmi celebration remains the ‘victory of good over evil.’

Dussehra or Vijayadashmi falls on the tenth day of Navratri. The sky-high effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnada are set of fire to celebrate Lord Rama’s victory over asura king Ravana on this day. Vijayadashmi also commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasur. The legends may vary but the message behind the Vijayadashmi celebration remains the ‘victory of good over evil.’

Let us take you through 5 places in India that celebrate this day with great fervor in the most diverse ways:

1. Mysore

For over 400 years, the Mysore Dasara has been celebrated with great pomp and show. Mysuru got its name from Mahishasura – the demon killed by Goddess Chamundeshwari on the tenth day of the Navratri Festival – Vijayadashmi.

The key attractions of Mysore Dasara are the marvelously lit Mysore Palace, elephant ride, military parades and various cultural shows.

2. West Bengal

The people of West Bengal, celebrate the victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasura with Durga puja. The day is marked by processions where Durga idols are carried to river or ocean and the devotees bid farewell to the Goddess.

During Durga Puja elaborate pandals are constructed where people offer prayers, enjoy scrumptious bhojs and perform a special dance known as dhunuchi.

3. Kullu

Kullu Dussehra is yet another most-sought after Dussehra celebration in India. However, instead of burning the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnada, the locals perform Lanka-Dahan by burning a consortium of dry leaves and twigs. In rest of the country, Dussehra marks the end of celebration of Navratri, but in Kullu the festivities begin with Dussehra.

The main attractions of Kullu Dussehra are the dances performed on the beats of dhadaks and notes of Narsingha trumpets.

4. Chennai

The states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh celebrate the festival with Bommai Kolus – wherein colorful dolls are displayed along with idols of Goddess Laxmi, Saraswati and Parvati. Kalasa Ahvanam marks the first day and Vijyadashmi concludes the festival.

5. Varanasi

The Ram Lila at Varanasi is rejoiced by thousands of viewers every year. Special sets of Ayodhya, Lanka and Ashok Vatika are constructed for Ram Lila and the characters enact Ramayana in the most unique way.
